without your past, you could never have arrived so wondrously and brutally, by design or some violent, exquisite happenstance

...here.

❛   I prefer to think I work with you.   ❜   The bold correction comes with an added smirk that, were she anyone else, might have bought him some sympathy at the very least. Alas, the man happened to be playing with fire  –––  but this was Gotham. It was the only way one could play.  ❛  Cautious sort, are you? I suppose that’s commendable.  ❜  And a good business practise, at any rate.  ❛  Where’s the fun in that?  ❜   Soon as the question leaves his lips, he takes in the extent of the displeasure upon her face, and realises she was not from this wicked city. Their ways would not do. Before she could protest, he waves a conceding hand.  ❛  Alright, very well. I’ll tell you: I’ve got a few moles inside the GCPD. They are working on covering up our next moves as we speak. Plus, I’ve got some lower gangs under my hook that will be causing enough distractions for Jim Gordon and his cronies to be looking another way entirely when the next shipment arrives.  ❜

dark irises stare at him from behind eyelids open wide, her jaw hanging ever so slightly. he seemed to think this was a game, but regina took business very seriously. fun could be had when the job was done and there was no more risk, her reward already in hand.   ‘   i don’t work with anyone. i’m sure if you checked, you would notice the words accomplice and accessory never show up on my list of warrants.   ’   cautious was never a word she used to describe herself. the woman never had a problem with danger, but she wouldn’t willingly put herself in those situations either. it simply wasn’t smart in her eyes, and he seemed much smarter when he dropped his incessant need for dramatics.

she looks up at him from where she sits, one leg folded over the other and arms crossed in front of her torso. her features soften from her surprise, squinting at him as he finally gives her a straight answer.   ‘   do you have a plan to clear the area, or should i bring in more men to keep watch ?   ’   /   @piratehook

❛  You needn’t have come all this way.  ❜   He speaks through a forced smile, perhaps too evidently attempting to reign in any further signs of irritation. He liked surprises as much as he enjoyed shaky business  –––  which was not at all. The woman having flown from bloody France to be there over a mild bump on their road was nothing if not the very embodiment of shaky. Hardly showed a lot of trust. In all honesty, he couldn’t blame her. Were the roles reversed, he’d have done the same.  ❛  I’m taking care of it, Regina. I assure you, the GCPD will not meddle in our affairs for much longer.  ❜

‘  as long as you’re working for me, i’ll check up whenever i damn well please.  ’  she doesn’t return his smile, not one for pleasantries, at least not when it came to business. a single brow raises as she watches him with dark eyes.  ‘  you’ll have to excuse me if i’m not one to leave this big of a job in someone’s hands and not check up.  '  a sigh pushes out her nose, head shaking ever so slightly. regina was not one to get stressed, but she was difficult enough for the both of them. if he wanted to play stubborn, then nothing would get done.  ‘  why don’t you ease my worries and tell me exactly how you plan to, ‘ take care of it. ’  ‘
