without your past, you could never have arrived so wondrously and brutally, by design or some violent, exquisite happenstance

...here.

“    ok, ok, ok    —    i believe you.    ”    a guilty conscious shortly fell upon her for even doubting her mother. she was proud of how far her mother had come since the curse and the isle. yet there would always be a lingering doubt that people could never change    (    even if they tried so hard.    )    “    i’m sorry.       evie’s feet carried her towards her mother, sighing as she hugged her,    “    i should of trusted you.    ”    regina hasn’t given any reason for evie to doubt her mother, it was just old habits and the fear of being let down.    “    can you forgive me?

‘   i will always forgive you, evie.   ’   she lets a breath squeeze out of her lungs, eyes shutting momentarily as she gathered herself.   ‘   do not apologize for caring. you’re right. i don’t exactly have the best track record, but i promise you, i’m trying.      her words resonate through the room, warm brown eyes connecting with her daughter’s, solemn and kind as they always were when it came to her children.    ‘    come here.   ’    she opens her arms, offering an embrace, but not moving to initiate it, instead letting her decide.

“    prove it then.    ”    over the years,    the young girl grew to trust her mother but there would always be that lingering feeling of doubt consuming their relationship.    “    where were you? you two were the only people missing from the event?    —    and don’t lie to me.   ”    it took years for her to build confidence in order to stand up for herself. scared and sheltered, letting everyone walk over her for years. that girl didn’t exist anymore    (    thank god!    )    self confidence and reassurance was the new trend.    (    @fairsts    //    cont.    )

𝐎𝐍𝐄 𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐏 𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐃, a million back. that’s how it felt these days. regina knew that no matter how hard she tried, her past would still follow her, regrets chained to her ankle like an iron ball.  ‘  i went home, evie. i told you i was leaving early and going to bed. that’s what i did.  ’  the party, after all, had been a miserable affair of forced laughter and fake smiles. she had to be happy, otherwise, she was suspicious. turns out, either way, she gets stuck with the burden of proof.  ‘  what proof would you like me to provide i may have magic, but things like that don’t appear out of thin air, detective mills.  ’  sass perhaps better kept to herself, but she would be damned if she would accept a lecture from her daughter, especially a wrongful one.
