without your past, you could never have arrived so wondrously and brutally, by design or some violent, exquisite happenstance

...here.

a frustrated sigh pushes through crimson lips, a soft shake of her head. she could not, for the life of her, figure out why emma cared so much. it did not make an ounce of sense to her, and thus, in her mind, it could not be true.   ‘  why should i ?   ’   the mayor is as indignant as ever, stubborn and far too jaded to allow herself to be vulnerable in front of the other. regardless of what they had been through, this had been the only way regina survived. never show that you can be weak.   ‘   we aren’t in highschool, crying over boys and freezing each other’s bras at sleepover parties. i am not some fragile shell of a woman waiting for the perfect moment to go back to the darkness ! if there was something going on, i could handle it on my own.   ’   and though she may not be fragile, she was worse for wear, and every blow became a little harder to take. not that she would ever show it.
